Ex-Simbu officer faces money rap

By CEDRIC LAGA
FORMER Simbu acting provincial administrator Joe Kunda has been charged by the Kundiawa police with allegedly misappropriating more than K170,000.

He was arrested last Friday, charged and released on bail of K200.
He is expected to appear in the Kundiawa District Court this week.
Simbu police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tondop told The National that Kunda was charged with using K178,863.69 to pay himself at a level 5 salary when he was acting provincial administrator between January 2004 and December 2005.
He said Kunda was only entitled to a level 4 salary.
Insp Tondop claimed that Kunda was entitled to level 4 salary only and the money he used was more than what he was supposed to be paid while acting on the position.
Meanwhile, two persons were killed in a two incidents at Kup in Kerowagi district last week,
Mr Tondop said one of them was shot dead near Waghi Bridge last Oct 29 in connection with a drowning incident six years ago.
Mr Tondop urged the people not to take the law into their own hands and to hand in their weapons to the police.
He said this after a man was killed last Friday by a group of men who allegedly sought revenge against him.
