Hire, fire concept threatens society

I REFER to the article “Hire and fire experiment” (Nov 6). I totally disagree with the concept.
Whist the idea may be to improve efficiency in service delivery and reduce bureaucratic red tape in appointments or other administrative functions and so forth, the abuse of the system will be more systematic than at present.
This is to say that those given such powers will no doubt hire and fire at will, with little regard for established norms, ethics and rules, either legal or otherwise.
It has the potential to threaten the very fabric of that organisation.
Think about the hiring of a family, clan, tribe, in-laws, etc, at will, regardless whether they fit the selection criteria or merit.
Then the indiscriminate firing with no regard to established industrial and employment laws or the Public Services Management Act.
It is very dangerous to give people such power in civil service where responsibility and ownership is vested not in one person but the State, as a collective body.
It will increase nepotism, favouritism and racism and compound the problems already in the system.
What about the exploitation so that someone gets a job?
We all know the level of corruption in this country, in particular, the public service. What happens when that particular head gets such powers?
It is very frightening to see this concept being implemented.
The working population of this nation, especially the public servants, should strongly oppose this move.
There are other strategies that can be implemented to improve the overall service and performance efficiency.
For example, put public servants on a three-year contract, set performance benchmarks and if they do not perform, remove them in a transparent and legal way, rather than short circuit the whole system corruptly.
