Locals agree to give land

SEVENTEEN landowner groups from four clans in Manus province have signed an agreement facilitating the transfer of the land title to the Correctional Services (CS) for the construction of the new prison.
Rossun Rhan, the major clan of the sub-clans comprising Hupat, Pelyau, Poldou and Ndrosakei, agreed to give in their land under the Land Dispute Settlement Act through the Local Land Court at Lorengau.
The proposed site for the prison to be constructed at K5 million was Polnou located northeast of Lorengau town.
The signing event was a follow-up to a visit by CS Minister Tony Aimo, Commissioner Richard Sikani and a technical team from Port Moresby two weeks ago.
The team had visited four sites where Polnou was selected after meeting the criteria set by the law and justice sector.
Mr Aimo acknowledged the efforts of the land task force committee which worked with the 17 landowner representatives from four clans and the signing of the agreement.
