20 districts identified, earmarked for ‘least developed district grant’

TWENTY districts in the country had been identified as least developed and has been earmarked to receive funding under the “least developed district grant (LDDG)”.
The districts, as named by the Office of Rural Development (ORD), are Telefomin, Nuku, Vanimon-Green, Aitape-Lumi (Sandaun), Ambunti-Dreikikir, Angoram (East Sepik), Menyamya, Bulolo, Kabwum (Morobe), Middle-Ramu, Raikos, Usino-Bundi, Bogia (Madang), Obura-Wonenara, Okapa, Lufa (Eastern Highlands), Karimui-Nomane (Simbu), Jimi, Tambul-Nebilyer (Western Highlands) and Goilala (Central).
This was made known recently in Goroka during a workshop organised by the ORD.
The workshop pointed out that the intention of the LDD grant was to assist areas with lowest socio-economic conditions improve their lot.
The LLD grant is intended to only assist districts where the provincial government lacked the fiscal capacity or has low revenue per head to address under development through the use of its own resources.
