Cheshire home raises K35,000

THE Cheshire Home has raised K35,000 from the red feather corporate golf challenge which was held recently at the Port Moresby Golf Club.
The funds raised were to be used to help in the operational costs of running the Cheshire Home.
At present, it relied heavily on donations and more money was needed to help support the 20 residents and the 33 staff.
This event was the first of many other fundraisers to be held by the centre.
Apart from that, additional money was needed to help facilitate the need for special education for children with disabilities, support the carers of the disabled and to help assist in their community-based outreach programme where workers go out to communities to help the disabled people who were not able to go to the Cheshire Home for therapy.
Many corporate bodies took part in the event with teams from ANZ, BPNG, Budget Rental Cars, Freeway Motors, Gadens Lawyers, POM Golf Club, Graffiti Signs, InterOil, Kina Finance, Mirupasi Lawyers, Paul Paraka Lawyers, Pacific MMI (two teams), PNG Motors, PNG Pest Control, PNG Power, RH Hypermart, Sunday Chronicle, UMW, Westpac, Oil Search, Gulf Investment and the Marimari Foundation.
The Marimari Foundation also donated K5,000.
The event was just the beginning of many other fundraising drives that would take place.
The first major fundraiser were the red feather cocktail dinner organised by the Cheshire Home for women working in corporate businesses.
From these fundraisers, they hope to create more awareness on what the home needs and what they hope to achieve.
Because the Cheshire Home is basically donor-funded, it has decided to take a step in being responsible to help itself in whatever way it can.
The prizes for the golf challenge were donated by various companies and many other fundraising events had been planned for next year and would run through the whole year.
