Temu reveals NA’s plan
DEPUTY Prime Minister Dr Puka Temu has stressed the need
for a business arm of the National Alliance Party.
Speaking last Wednesday at the NA Party National Convention at the
University of PNG, Dr Temu said the corporate arm of the party would
manage the strategy towards securing a sustainable source of revenue for
the party’s operations at all levels and at all times.
“At the same time, the ownership of the party through our membership
drive will guarantee the strong support of the NA Party.”
Dr Temu said that this was also part of the institutionalising process
of the party.
He said that the next phase of institutionalising the party was to focus
on ordinary Papua New Guineans owning the party and influencing policies
and shaping its political culture.
He also recommended to the convention for the establishment of the
research and development arm of the party.
“By this, I mean that all policies that are recommended for the party’s
consideration are based on well-researched and competent evidence.”
He said this arm would also include a management strategy to support the
party but in particular the Members of Parliament to become effective
leaders.
“It is when members become effective leaders that they secure popularity
support and therefore continuity as Members of Parliament.
“I believe that as a party and as a nation we must break out of our
traditional mentality and habits and to do things differently if we are
going to be a party that is truly a national political institution and a
party that is truly owned by ordinary Papua New Guineans.”
Dr Temu said he wanted NA to remain competitive in order to survive in a
highly dynamic and demanding environment both domestically and at
regional level.
