Uniformed cops not involved

POLICE are investigating claims by acting Kerowagi district administrator Joe Norpo that he was attacked by police officers in Kundiawa early this month.
Provincial police commander Supt Joseph Tondop said yesterday, however this particular incident “off-duty public servants” were involved but not “uniformed police personnel”.
He said the incident reported actually started outside a nightclub at Mt Wilheim Hotel on Nov 2.
Mr Norpo had alleged that he was attacked by a policeman and had to seek treatment at the Kundiawa General Hospital.
The next day, he said, the same policeman and some of his supporters attacked him again in the hospital.
He claimed that one of the policemen threatened to kill him once he was discharged from hospital .
Mr Tondop said, however, that the incident outside the nightclub involved Mr Norpo and one Mr Simbia.
“Uniformed police on duty were not involved in the drunken brawl,” he said.
He said the next day, Mr Norpo came with his supporters and attacked Mr Simbia near Kundiawa town, injuring him seriously.
Later, Mr Simbia and his thugs allegedly assaulted Mr Norpo in the hospital causing him serious injuries.
Mr Tondop said all three incidents would be investigated separately and action would be taken according to the merit of each case.
