‘Strike illegal’

By HARLYNE JOKU
DEPUTY Prime Minister Dr Puka Temu said yesterday that the PNG Power workers’ strike was illegal and the Government would not hesitate to take action against the perpetrators.
Dr Temu was responding to questions raised by the Morobe Governor Luther Wenge, who asked what the Government’s position was on the strike action by the PNG Power workers and whether a State of Emergency could be declared as a result of this action.
Dr Temu said the Law and Order Ministerial Committee established by the NEC met last night and concluded that the strike action by the workers was illegal
“They have not complied with an enterprise-based agreement which they are signatories to and because of that, the board has taken a court injunction against them.
“They have not complied with the court order therefore they are in contempt of the court order.”
