Bugandi secondary to re-align to cater
education reform
BUGANDI Secondary School needs to re-align itself in order to
accomplish the aspirations of the Government’s education reform.
The core policy issues of the reform were access for more students to be
enrolled, gender equality and standard and quality education.
This was the message from chairman of the governing council Sakeus Gem
during the 13th combined graduation of Grade 10 and Grade 12 students at the
school yesterday.
“Of these core issues, Bugandi is the leading school in providing more
access for students to enrol at Grade 9 and Grade 11,” Mr Gem said.
He said last year during Grade 11 selections, Bugandi enrolled 266 year 11
students, the highest in the country.
“We now have the capacity to enroll 130% of our Grade 10s to continue into
Grade 11, meaning all Grade 10 students have access to continue Grade 12,”
Mr Gem told the graduating students, parents and guardians.
Bugandi is not only one of the oldest schools in the country but is also one
of the largest with more than 1,500 students.
This had seen the school elevated to a level 10 school this year.
“I want to see our total enrolment stabilised at 1,500 so we can plan and
allocate resources accordingly in order to pursue the goals of gender equity
and quality and standard education,” Mr Gem said, adding that an unstable
enrolment would make planning difficult.
He assured parents and guardians that the school council and administration
remain committed to finding money to build classrooms and other school needs
to ensure students have the facilities and resources to excel.
Guest speaker at the 45th Grade 10 graduation and the 12th Grade 12
graduation was former student and deputy police commissioner (operations)
Geoffrey Vaki.
Other guests included assistant police commissioner (Momase) Giossi Labi and
provincial government and business community representatives.
The International Training Institute (ITI) sponsored two top business
studies students, who did not receive any offers with the universities, to
study at ITI.
The sponsorship worth K1,850 each and was awarded to two students who were
committed to their business studies.
Dux award for Grade 10 went to Ruth Philip courtesy of Colorpak while the
two Grade 12 dux were awarded to David Sialis in science and Joseph Yorainey
in Social science. |
