Judge not amused with NHC lawyer

By JULIA DAIA BORE
A SUPREME and National Court judge yesterday told a lawyer for the National Housing Commission (NHC) “to spread the word” that he would “not entertain any cases” brought before him by the NHC.

Justice Bernard Sakora told NHC lawyer Elizabeth Bowada, who appeared before him on a NHC matter, that he was not impressed with the way NHC was treating an order for an evicted tenant to return to the property.
The NHC is seeking to reverse a court order allowing tenant Hanneman Kadeu to re-occupy the property in Korobosea in Port Moresby.
A court order was issued last Friday for NHC to return keys to Mr Kadeu and his family, who had been forcefully locked out of their home since Nov 8.
The court also restrained the NHC, its managing director Paul Asakusa and his officers from conducting any further eviction of Mr Kadeu and his family from the property, section 72 allotment 12, Boroko.
But the NHC failed to return the keys, and instead are in court to fight the order.
Justice Sakora told the NHC lawyer he was not impressed with the way the NHC was going about in bringing the matter before him, when it should by now be complying with last Friday’s orders.
Meanwhile, a scheduled hearing by a four-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice Sir Mari Kapi to hear the contempt of court issues related to the Moti case was adjourned to tomorrow.
The contempt charges are in relation to the public notices and press releases on the PNG Defence Force Board of Inquiry report into the Moti issue, its status and related comments made recently in the media by Defence Minister Bob Dadae.
