Website gateway for further education

By DENNIS ORERE
“THE internet and related technologies, can provide the gateway to better and more flexible ways of delivering education – both nationally and internationally,” Governor-General and patron of Papua New Guinea Australia alumni association Sir Paulias Matane said during the launching of the website at the World Bank (WB) conference centre, in Port Moresby yesterday.

Present at the occasion were Australian HC Chris Moraitis, WB country manager Benson Ateng, representatives from alumni executives and alumni members.
Sir Paulias said: “While considering how technology can be used by current leaders and future leaders, we need to move a stage further and consider how we can use it to enhance education, at all levels across.
“As you access and use your new website, please reflect on the leadership challenges we face, and the role technology can play on meeting those challenges,” Sir Paulias said.
“In fact you, and the knowledge you have, or will obtain, are the ‘resource’ that will ensure the continuing development of our country,” he said.
Sir Paulias said as the alumni had grown in strength and numbers over the past 12 months, he had noted some of the milestones it had achieved, including – a hard-working executive group; close links with other key PNG organizations with similar interests, breakfast seminars, regional Alumni chapter meetings and in the next few days, the second conference of the alumni association.
Sir Paulias said: “Alumni members recently debated the present state of telecommunications in Papua New Guinea – why not a debate on flexible modes of delivery? After all, you are the practical experts – the graduates of Australian tertiary programs.”
