Technical education on boat building lacking

By FRANK RAI
CONCERNS have been raised by a prominent political advocacy group in Morobe on the lack of technical education on boat building and maintenance in the province.
The Morobe Community Welfare and Justice (MCWJ) group chairman Peter Seske told The National lack of technical education on boat building and maintenance for maritime provinces in the country was a “failure” in the education system.
“There are 15 maritime provinces in the country including National Capital District and yet there is a gap in the education system for young men and women to have technical education in vocational schools, technical high and secondary schools,” Mr Seske said.
He said the country was focused on mechanical, carpentry and agricultural education in these schools, which was an “imbalance” to the maritime provinces.
He added that the Education Department should start formulating boat building and maintenance curriculums in schools to cater for the increasing demand in the coastal provinces.
“If the Education Department cannot do it, then I call upon the Morobe Provincial Education Division to look into it and have the curriculums developed.”
