TEAM Oro for the PNG Games in Lae has received a major boost with K10,000 funding from Ijivitari MP David Arore.
Arore made the commitment to Team Oro during his Joint District Planning and Budget Priority Committee meeting in Popondetta last week.
The K10,000 cheque was raised and handed over to Team Oro coordinator John Inga in Popondetta on Monday.
Arore, who is also vice-minister for Education called on Team Oro not to take it for granted about the funding.
“If you are serious, you have to put time and effort into excelling to become good sportsman and women.”
Arore said the Government, provincial government and individual MP’s cannot continue to pour money into the game when nothing comes good from the game and the participants.
“We have to play to win and on the same token we must take into consideration the wider perspective of being a true sportsmen and women, and that is to aim higher and to excel at regional and international competitions.”
“We cannot pour in money because resources are scarce and there are other areas that needed that same funding.”
“So make use of the chance opportunity and the sky is the limit.”
Arore also urged the sportsmen and women not to depend too much on handouts and start planning fundraising activities at least two to three years in advance.
Inga when receiving the K10,000 cheque thanked the Member for Ijivitari for his prompt support and called on other two MPs Governor Suckling Tamanabae and Sohe MP Anthony Nene to do the same.
