NCD pair shines in women’s bowls

THIRTEEN-year-old Maila Tau and Madlyne Aisi from Team NCD put up impressive performances to beat Team Morobe in the 3rd PNG Games women’s bowls pairs competition yesterday.
Tau and Aisi kept NCD’s finals hopes alive for the finals play-offs.
Tournament coordinator Albert Barakeina said that five teams NCD, Morobe, Eastern Highlands and Manus took part in the bowls competition in the male and female’s triples and the pair’s competition yesterday.
The finals will be held today and the singles and the fours competition will be played at 3pm today and the finals will be held tomorrow and the singles and the fours competition will be played after 3pm, Barakeina said.
Team Manus is leading the male triple competition on (6) points followed by WHP (4), NCD (2) while Morobe and Eastern Highlands have not registered any points yet.
Team NCD is leading the female triple competition with (6) points followed by Western Highlands and Morobe on (2) while Manus and Eastern Highlands are both tied on (1) point apiece.
Team NCD is leading the male triple competition with 6 points, followed behind by Manus on (4), Eastern Highlands on (2) and Morobe and Western Highlands have yet to register any points on the board.
Team NCD is also leading the male pairs competition with (6) points followed behind by Manus on (4), Eastern Highlands and Morobe are both tied on (2).
The finals of the pairs and triples competition will be played this afternoon and the presentation will be made prior to the start of the singles and the fours competition and the finals on Wednesday afternoon.
In soccer yesterday, Team Morobe and PNG striker Daisy Winas had a field day scoring three goals in a lopsided affair against Southern Highlanders at the LFA Park.
Winas linked up well with counterparts Jacqueline Chalau, and Jacinta Langa to run rings around their opponents and score at will and to deny their opponents any room.
Jubilant coach and former PNG star Rupert Romney said his girls combined well in the flanks and midfield to shut out their opponents and feed strikers Winas, Chalau and Langa.
In other women games NCD beat Manus 1-0, West New Britain beat New Ireland 2-1, Enga beat Bougainville 3-0, East New Britain beat ast Sepik 3-0 and NCDdrew 1-1 with Bougainville.
In the men’s games at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium NCD drew with Bougainville 0-, Madang beat SHP 1-0, Morobe thrashed Bougainville 7-0, and Manus beat Madang 3-0. Simbu went down to West New Britain 1-0 at the LFA Park.
