Madang lodge protest in darts gold medal match

By BONNIE ABOLA
THE Darts competition team medal play off suffered a slight delay on Monday preventing it from proceeding to the medal play-offs.
The hiccup was caused by Team Madang protesting that they had already won the gold against NCD in what they were allegedly told was the grand final and did not have to play again against Manus for the gold.
Officials of the games say that Team Madang had won against NCD but that was only in their pool.
Team Madang has since been advised to write a letter of protest to the tournament directors with a fee of K100 as required by game regulations before the games officials and directors will decide on what to do next.
In the meantime the medal play-off has been postponed until the matter has been resolved.
Madang darts team manager Foo Ori however said: “We were told we were playing the grand final against NCD but after beating NCD we were then told to play Manus again for the gold.”
Ori said that the officials had however, settled the matter with the team and Madang can now go ahead and play in the doubles event.
After the women’s quarter finals doubles event leaders for pool one are Team East New Britain 1, Manus, Western Highlands, and Enga. In pool two Team Manus, West New Britain, Morobe and East New Britain 2 are leading.
