Suspects escape from back of police vehicle

THREE suspects allegedly involved in a series of criminal activities in the north Goroka community in EHP escaped from the back of a police vehicle while on the way to the police station on Tuesday morning.
One of the men had earlier in the morning tried to hold up a female teacher at her house within the campus of the Goroka Business College using a home-made gun.
The suspect escaped when the teacher and her seven year old daughter screamed out for help.
Police managed to arrest the man and two of his accomplices a couple of hours later and were transporting them to the station for questioning when the suspects jumped off the back of the police vehicle and dashed into the nearby bushes close to the Zogizoi river.
The female teacher, who asked not to be named for security reasons, told The National that the same gang tried to rob her last Saturday also in broad daylight.
The attack on her has raised concern among teachers there, who said security at the institution should be looked into as guards providing security at the institution had also been attacked by armed criminals.
They expressed fear that if security guards could be attacked by criminals then the safety of the teachers and students at the college was not guaranteed.
