Seismic activity is volcanic related

THE West New Britain disaster office has confirmed the build-up of seismic activity in the Sulu area was volcanic related but Mt Pago is not likely to erupt soon.
This was after physical survey was done in the area by disaster officers last week.
Acting disaster director, Peter Morlin said an assessment team travelled into the area last week to interview locals on frequent earthquakes felt during Nov 11 and 15.
He said seismographs strongly indicated volcanic activity but it was not likely that Mt Pago would erupt soon.
Mr Morlin said they were currently monitoring the situation carefully and hoped officials from the Rabaul Volcano Observatory would conduct technical assessment.
The WNB province had pledged K10,000 so that the disaster office can conduct further assessment of the situation.
They had earlier also allocated K10,000 to conduct physical survey in the Sulu area after a build-up of seismic activity was reported early this month.
