SIMBU’s medal winning diabled athletes are angry that they are not supported by their provincial government.
They won one gold, three silvers and one bronze in power lifting ñ all without the help of the provincial government.
Agnes Michael (pictured) surprisingly beat all opponents and grabbed the gold in the 40kg division.
Others who got silver and bronze are Rose Peter (40kg), Michael Gomal (67.5kg), Simon Peter (82kg) and Francis Yambe (67.5kg).
The gold medalist Agnes, 22, from Gembogl district, said she and her colleagues scraped together K50 for their bus fare to Lae to compete.
You see we are disabled, now we can look for our wantoks for bus fare back.
“We want the Simbu provincial government to rescue us now while in Lae.”
