Wet track due for last enduro
THIS year’s Bamfield Enduro is shaping up to be an arduous
affair due to the wet weather in the nation’s capital during the past few
weeks.
However, despite the rain the Port Moresby Off-Road Motorcycle Club are
preparing for the second year of this grueling event.
The event is named after the motorcycle club and good friend and riding
companion Peter Bamfield who passed away two years ago.
The event is the last one on the calendar in a year that has seen off-road
motorcycling grow across the country as well as putting the local riders on
the international map with PNG’s first team entry in the Finke Desert Race
in Central Australia.
“The growth in the sport has been encouraging, particularly with the
increasing numbers in Lae and Goroko as well as regular events to keep new
riders entertained,” spokesman Peter Jackson said.
“While Port Moresby riders have waned somewhat, the Morobe Motorcycle Club
appears to be going from strength to strength and that is good for the sport
as a whole” Jackson said.
The Bamfield Enduro is a three-hour enduro that is credited as being the
toughest event in the country.
Riders have to do as many laps as possible over some of Port Moresby’s
toughest (and wettest) terrain.
The Bamfield Enduro is being held at Nine-Mile.
Just look for signposts marking the exit to the event which is on this
Sunday, Nov 25.
The senior event starts at 10.30pm. BYO chairs, drinks and entry for
spectators is free.
