Push for tourism in EHP

By ZACHERY PER
THE Eastern Highlands provincial government yesterday engaged a local coffee roasting company to help promote tourism in the province.
Solomon Tato, deputy provincial administrator for programme management and coordination, and Bubia Muhuju, provincial agriculture advisor, yesterday handed over a cheque for K50,000 to Tribal Coffee to advertise tourism destination in the province on the back cover of the company’s roasted coffee packaging.
“The money is part of the K1 million the province received from the province’s coffee derivation grant which would be ploughed back into coffee and tourism promotion,” they said.
Mr Tato and Mr Bubia told The National that Tribal Coffee would print pictures and brief descriptions of all the tourism sites and business entities in the eight districts of Eastern Highlands.
They said it would be a major part of promoting tourism sites, local business and coffee products to bring in tourists to the province.
“Among those to be featured on the coffee packaging included information on tourists attractions like the famous Asaro Mudmen, Kainantu Pottery, Yonki dam, Nokondi, Aiyura valley and several tour operations and sites in the province,” they added.
They said it would be part of helping the farmers market their coffee and promote tourism in the province.
