Samoa gets financing for power expansion

APIA: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the governments of Japan and Australia are providing US$88 million (K257.31 million) financing for Samoa’s power sector expansion project, Radio New Zealand International reports.
The ADB was extending a US$26.61 million (K77.81 million) grant for the project.
The Japan Bank for International Co-operation is providing a US$38 million (K111 million) loan, and Australia is extending an US$8 million (K68.44 million) grant that would be used as counterpart financing by the Samoan government in the project.
The Government-owned Electric Power Corp, which is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity throughout Samoa would cover the remaining US$12 million (K35 million) for the project.
Samoa wants to establish an effective regulation of the power sector and a strategy to promote energy efficiency and conservation as well as develop clean energy resources. – PNS
