Absence shocking

SHOCKING. That was my immediate reaction to absence of the National AIDS Council at the on-going PNG Games in Lae.
The reason that it was not invited by the organisers is a joke. NACS is supposed to be proactive. That’s why the National Government, donor agencies, stakeholders and partners are pumping in millions to stop the spread of this dreaded disease.
NACS does not need a formal invitation. It should have invited itself to educate our young men and women about the dangers of unprotected sex and whatever messages it wants to convey to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
I am sure the PNG Sports Federation had invited NACS to the games. Otherwise, why should it express disappointment that NACS had missed a great opportunity. Obviously, someone has failed to do his or her job.
NACS must be careful about how it responds in the media because the world is watching and I would not be wrong if some donor organisations are just as shocked and dismayed.
