WNB to upgrade health facilities
The people of West New Britain will have access to
better health care with the opening of new facilities including a
dentistry unit and pathology laboratory at the Kimbe General Hospital.
The new infrastructure also includes construction of a pharmacy,
consulting rooms, public toilets and walkways with improvements to
existing x-ray and medical units.
Extra equipment for general, medical, dental, and pathology units and
the hospital kitchen are also available.
“The new and upgraded facilities will result in better performance at a
level way beyond previous capacity, just as important are the other
benefits which will come as a result of the re development,” AusAID
first secretary, Belinda Conn at the Kimbe launch said.
“If children are healthy they can study better and go to school more
often, likewise healthy adults can perform better at work, earn more and
look after their family.
Strengthening health facilities would lead to stronger economic growth”
she said.
Ms Conn said the Australian government was pleased to be involved in a
project with wider development benefits.
She gave recognition to the project administration and accounts clerk,
Mary Sawa, site supervisor and architect, Jennifer Tangole and the
accountant, Hawat Matanga for their services towards the project.
“Not only have you helped to bring this project within the budget and
months ahead of schedule, you are also setting a great example for PNG
women and young girls, telling them, they too can break into roles
traditionally dominated by males,” Ms Conn said.
