Telikom chips in

TELIKOM has mobilised a disaster-relief programme to ease the suffering of flood victims in Oro province.
Special project teams have visited the province to assess damage to communications links, and to bring in emergency VHF radio-telephone links for installation at care centres designated by local disaster authorities.
James Banduru, Telikom’s disaster relief team leader, said there had been considerable damage to communication links, and while making repairs, they were putting in extra emergency links to keep the authorities and the displaced people in contact.
Meanwhile, the management of Telikom has approved a donation of K30,000 towards the disaster relief fund, and staff pooled resources in a compassionate collection of food and other useful items to be transported to the affected areas.
A special number is being established to allow people with donations and other offers of assistance to be in direct contact with disaster relief headquarters.
The number is 180 2233.
