PM’s Golf Challenge starts in Lae today
THE Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge is scheduled
to take place today at Lae Golf Club in Morobe province.
The Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare though will not be participating.
Standing in for the prime minister, who is overseas, will be Philemon Embel,
Minister for State assisting the Prime Minister. Embel will start the
proceedings when he tees off at 11.30am.
A total of 23 teams have confirmed their participation in the four-man
Ambrose event.
The major hole-in-one incentives include:
*A Mitsubishi Triton L200 sponsored by Boroko Motors;
*A pallet of Export Lager beer sponsored by SP Brewery; and
*A 3kVA generator from Trukai Industries.
Teams coming first, second and third will walk away with four business class
return tickets from Lae to Port Moresby; four business class return tickets
from Lae to Rabaul; and four business class return tickets from Lae to
Madang, respectively, courtesy of Air Niugini.
Teams will also be in the race for other novelty prizes for the best dressed
team of the day, nearest to the pin, longest drive, eagle’s next, and drive
and pitch for first and tenth holes as well as the Naga.
All teams will go into a major draw to win the following prizes from Air
Niugini:
*Two return tickets from Port Moresby to Singapore;
*Two return tickets from Port Moresby to Sydney; and
*Four return tickets from Lae to Port Moresby.
All proceeds from the PM’s Corporate Golf Challenge will go towards
assisting Team PNG to prepare and participate in the 2008 Olympic Games in
Beijing, China, on Aug 8-24, 2008.
This golf challenge in Lae has been organised for the past three years and
is geared towards assisting Team PNG to prepare and participate in various
regional and international sporting competitions such as the mini games,
South Pacific Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games.
PNG Sports Federation and Olympic Committee secretary general Sir John
Dawanincura acknowledged and thanked the participating teams as well as
major sponsor of the event Boroko Motors as well as Air Niugini, SP Brewery
and Trukai Industries and other support and prize sponsors.
“We also wish to acknowledge the management and staff of Lae Golf Club as
well as our tournament director Stan Walker and our fundraising committee
members,”Sir John said.
“We are certainly looking forward to a great day and the weather is
certainly better than in Port Moresby and I hope it continues that way.”
