Coach wants better facilities

SOME sportsmen and women at the PNG Games may have better access to proper training facilities and resources but the majority of them are raw talents.
These were the remarks from the Team Western’s athletics coach when congratulating his 1500m middle distance runner after he came first at the heat one race yesterday.
Coach Iroa Pamoa said after the race that Tutuli Segiya of Balimo in the Middle Fly district of Western province has made his way up from the village.
“He (Segiya) is a local, straight from the village. He trained at the village on grass, sand and ground after a tournament at Balimo to select the athletes for this game,” Pamoa said.
“This is even his first time to run on a synthetic track and his first time to represent the province to compete at this level,” the coach added.
According to the coach, Segiya had completed primary education back in his village and had not been able to further his education.
The young lad from Balimo had been a subsistence farmer during the time when he was selected to represent his province at the 1500m middle distance race.
