Youngsters told to focus on good leadership

By PETER MIVA
SCOUT leaders in Morobe and throughout the country have been challenged to set aside their self-interests and concentrate on good leadership to effectively promote the movement’s visions and goals.
PNG Scout Association Chief Commissioner Major Sere Kala issued the call while presenting certificates to 23 Morobe Scout Association leaders who completed a three-day basic adult leaders training course at the Lae Scout Hall, Eriku.
The Scout leaders represented various districts from the province and the different wards in Lae city.
Mr Kala told the leaders that their training was in line with his vision four years ago to equip young Scouts with adequate leadership training so that they may be good leaders in their communities.
He said the Scout movement has faced obstacles in enhancing its vision to promote disciplined youth because some Scout leaders after training have turned to other interests and commit themselves to non-Scout activities.
He said this was a main concern and urged the young leaders to obedient and committed to performing their Scout leadership the same way to other activities.
He said the country needs quality leaders in the communities in order to promote harmony, peace, law and order and it is the Scout’s vision to achieve that through its various activities and programmes.
