Morobe to get K140m: Wenge

By PETER KORUGL
MOROBE Governor Luther Wenge has applauded the National Government for the 2008 Budget, saying that it catered for much of the funding required by the province.
“For example, the province will get over K140 million in district grants. We have nine districts and each will get K10 million in the budget proper and K4 million in the Supplementary Budget,” he told a press conference.
Mr Wenge also noted that the province was getting the highest allocation ever of K73 million.
“The money will pay for salaries for teachers because of the new high and community schools we have built in the last few years.
“There are more teachers now in Morobe than ever before,” he said.
He said Lae city roads received the balance of the money committed by the Prime Minister early this year.
“We picked up K25 million in the Supplementary Budget and another K25 million was given in the budget proper.
“The Government has come good this time and the onus is on the people on the ground to ensure that the money is properly spent,” he said.
The National Government has also allocated K145 million to develop the port in Lae, with the Asian Development Bank providing the rest.
The PNG Lutheran University, which will begin classes in 2010, has been allocated K3 million to build infrastructure.
