Morobe ready to study pollution

THE Morobe provincial government is ready to help the Environment and Conservation Department to investigate the level of pollution in Lae city so that appropriate strategies can be taken.
Morobe Governor Luther Wenge said the information was needed to protect the people and the environment from polution.
He said the landfill was a big concern for his government and it was looking at ways to address the concerns surrounding the dump.
Early this month, the department wrote to the Lae urban local level government for assistance to inspect various facilities and places in Lae.
From the inspection, it will then determine whether a full-scale scientific investigation was necessary.
The department said its representative based in Lae had received complaints from residents living near a landfill and the use of the Bumbu River as a disposal site.
Lae city manager Bart Ipambonj said his office would cooperate with the department’s inspection .
