Sails up for Lagatoi against rival in Lae

LAGATOI, formely known as Kaderboro, recorded their first win last weekend over a fancied Rauklele in Lae Cricket.
Electing to bat first Raukele compiled a paltry 119 runs. Bowled out by an improved Lagatoi slow pace bowlers John Gavera (3-15 ), Raka Sinaka ( 2ñ20), Nou Ipi ( 2ñ22), and Moale (1- 24).
Lagatoi, with a disciplined line and length bowling technique, were successful in sending back the Raukele top order batsmen within the first 5 overs.
Openers Percy Vagi (0) and Jeremy Raka (5) were the first two victims off Gaveraís swing. Vii Killar with a few cob webs to shake off after a long delayed season cheaply fell for (1). Raukele at the 6th over was 3 for 22 until the Vuivagi brothers in skipper Keimelo (55) and Ravu (16) with their combination aggressive shots piled up the runs for a respected total in 26 overs. Moresby import Matthew Walo had to make a mark in Lae cricket with a polished 16 runs.
With a reachable target of 119, Lagatoi were given the aid of wides from Rauklele bowlers to surpass the score with more than 10 overs to spare and the last wicket on hand.
All round performance from Gavera (35) with his smooth onside and offside shots took command having Rauklele bowlers looking for options.
Lagatoi batsmen had the wining runs to score for their season boosting win with their last wicket on hand.
Lagatoi run-getters were young Timothy Sibona (15) and Sinaka (18) and Ipi (16) playing all round roles contributing with double figures.
The other games on Saturday and Sunday were all forfeited because of failures by teams to field sides.
Lae Cricket president William Maha has appealed to all clubs to field teams this weekend for the third round games before the Christmas break.
