New library for rural school

ABOUT 400 students at the Jim Taylor Memorial School in the remote North Waghi area of the Western Highlands province will soon enjoy a new library, thanks to Dame Meg Taylor and PNG Sustainable Development Program Ltd (PNGSDP).
Dame Meg Taylor, who is currently working for the World Bank in the US, had been raising funds through friends, for the church-run primary school named after her father.
After raising K30,000, she asked if PNGSDP could assist.
Following the request, PNGSDP inspected the school and chief executive officer Robert Igara agreed to provide K40,000 under the company’s community sustainable development programme. This brought the total funding for the library project to K70,000.
During a monitoring visit by officials from PNGSDP recently, they were impressed with the construction work on the library, which had its main structure already assembled.
Work was still progressing and the building was expected to be completed early next year.
The Jim Taylor Memorial Primary School is a level five school with more than 400 students, 13 teaching staff and 12 classrooms.
