JICA sends its
stuff
By NATALIE LAVI
THE Japanese International Co-operation Agency (JICA) has donated
various relief items to the flood victims in Oro province.
Japanese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Kanji Hanagata turned over the
goods to Minister for Inter-Government Relations Job Pomat at the
Jackson’s International airport.
Mr Hanagata had expressed his sympathy and concern to the devastated
province, adding that he hoped the donations will help the PNG
Government make headway in its relief and restoration activities for the
people of Oro province.
Mr Hanagata said his government, when it responded to the calamity, had
taken into consideration the friendly relationships between PNG and
Japan.
Minister for Internal Relations Job Pomat in accepting the relief aids
thanked the people and the government of Japan.
Youths take benefit of amnesty
MORE than 2,000 youths have taken advantage of an
amnesty to surrender stolen property, equipment used to produce homebrew
and drugs, to the police in Manus since last month.
The police had given an assurance that no action will be taken against
anyone who does so. The amnesty, which is funded by both the police and
the provincial government, ends on the second week of December.
Provincial police commander Insp Alex N’drasal said more items were
still being brought in and that at least 12 villages had promised to
curb illegal activities.
He said the police were still conducting checks on vessels entering the
ports.
