New aid post for Bulolo
A village in Bulolo, Morobe province has taken steps
to contain curable diseases by opening a new aid post last Saturday.
It was a morale booster for Sambio village with more than 2,000
inhabitants.
During the opening of Sambio aid post, board chairman Aron Baleng told a
packed crowd that between 10 to thirty Sambio villagers were dying from
diseases every year.
“We (Sambio) was the third populated area in the Mumeng but the death
records had increased rapidly during the last 30 years,” he said.
“Sometimes we have two deaths in a week and the minimum death in a month
here in Sambio had been three and four,” Mr Baleng said.
He said the aid post was constructed with funds from ward 14 councilors
of Sambio-Jack Tame and the Bulolo MP Sam Basil.
Mr Basil who was there to officiate the opening told the people that
health was one of his priority areas in the next five years.
Mr Basil said funds would be made available at the Nuigini drug
distributors to supply aid posts, health centres and hospitals with
drugs when the government supplies run out.
