Tufi gets relief supplies

PEOPLE at Tufi sub-district in Oro province who have been affected by floods as a result of Cyclone Guba, have received much-needed supplies, State of Emergency Controller Col Vagi Oala said yesterday.
Col Oala told reporters that supplies were flown in to Collingwood Bay as part of the ongoing relief efforts yesterday with assistance from the Australian defence force.
“My officers have confirmed that relief items had been delivered to Tufi, Wanigela and Yuaiu,” Col Oala said.
He said the relief was coordinated by the Vudal Coordinating Centre in Popondetta and the areas designated as relief distribution points.”
He said the distribution in each point would be coordinated by a local team of officers from the district administration, police, health and church representatives.
Items dispatched yesterday included rice, antibiotic supplies to treat malaria, diarrhoea and respiratory cases, water purification tablets and tarpaulins.
“There is still a need to deliver both food and other relief supplies but the relief phase is ongoing,” Col Oala said.
He urged both national and international agencies to provide further and continued assistance.
