Fighters go through final preparations
By SUSAN OREAPE-FARAPO
PNG Kickboxing Association (PNGKBA) is confident that Team PNG are major
contenders for the top honors when they meet Rest of the World this Sunday.
“We have no doubt ... we are ready for our opponents,” president of PNGKBA,
Stanley Nandex, said yesterday during a media briefing in Port Moresby.
So far fighters from ten countries including Hollywood Actor Don Wilson have
confirmed participation and are due to arrive in the country tomorrow.
PNGKBA believes that there are good fighters to step into the ring this
weekend but Team PNG fighters are going through intensive training should
dispose power stuff on the day.
The international event is a first for most of the fighters and according to
PNGKBA, Team PNG has shown very professional tactics during training.
“I have the confidence in my fighters ... I have seen them fight, they are
good we have no doubt in this event. But we are not underestimating the
international fighters. I am sure they will come in a big way,” Nandex said.
He said most of the international fighters are his close associates and have
seen them on ring, adding that there is tough challenge expected.
PNG will depend on their heavy-weight fighters and international reps in
Gabi Yura, Simon Kotabu and Lauries Hanku. |
