GG launches maths workbook for Grade 6
By ALISON ANIS
EKI Vaki Primary School has become the first school in nation’s capital and
the country to produce its own homegrown mathematics syllabus under the
pilot project for school-based-curriculum materials introduced by the
Education Department.
Last Monday, Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane launched the Grade 6
Mathematics Pupil Activity Book the first ever to be developed by teachers
in the country for students at the primary level.
The book was developed by three female teachers of Eki Vaki Primary School
and is also the first to be edited, designed, published and printed by a
local company in the country.
Treid Pacific in partnership with Eki Vaki school and the curriculum
division and the education board helped put together the mathematics
activity book.
“This is a breakthrough for the school and the education as this is the
first ever locally produced pupil activity book that has been edited,
designed and published by Papua New Guineans for Papua New Guineans,” acting
director for education services and NCD education board chairman Henao Nauna
said.
Sir Paulias, when addressing the students and teachers, including education
officials and invited guests, said he was pleased to launch the book and
challenged other teachers from other schools to develop own pupil activity
books.
The pupil activity book will be trialed at selected schools in the NCD
toward the beginning of next year before it is put to use.
