Reform vital for education sector

FOR PNG to be on par with the world’s education system, it has to keep up with new reforms within the system.
Education Department assistant secretary for standards and curriculum Godfrey Yerua made the remarks during the third annual Highlands regional teachers rating conference in Kundiawa last week.
“Reform is very important because we must change to be in competition with the rest of the world, the important changes are the structures and school curriculum,” he said.
He said, under the reforms, the previous national teachers rating conference was done away with to allow more senior officers to participate in the rating of teachers’ performances.
Mr Yerua appealed to warring tribal factions in the Highlands not to destroy education infrastructures in their provinces.
