National AIDS Council opens new media unit

THE National AIDS Council marked another milestone on Tuesday when it opened a new media unit at its office in Waigani.
Acting director of the National AIDS Council Bomal Gonapa, in his speech, said the creation of a National AIDS Council (NACS) media unit was not only a move in the right direction but also a strategic one.
He said the creation of NACS media unit would provide a networked “single focal point” for access and dissemination of information related to HIV/AIDS as well as control information flow and governance.
Mr Gonapa said the initiated idea was to establish and strengthen the NACS awareness on the issue and support efforts and works towards minimising the impact of the improper use of HIV and AIDS information and terminology, labeled as critical and sensitive.
Also present at the opening was communications adviser for AusAID’s Sanap Wantaim Programme Nidia Raya-Martinez, who said they had been working closely with NACS under the programme to establish a media unit.
