Lae softball competition heading into recess

LAE Softball Association (LSA) will go into recess and will resume at the first week of January next year.
The association’s executive was prompted to make the decision following the poor attendance of teams during last weekend.
Lae Softball Association president Francis Nambon said yesterday that many factors had affected the teams’ participation including the week-long PNG Games last month, AIDS Awareness week and the Gospel crusades that are staged at the Niall Reserve – home venue for the Lae Soft ball Association.
“We had to postpone, to allow time for all the clubs to get prepared to pay all the required affiliation fees prior to taking part in the competition,” he said.
“We will convene a meeting today (Wednesday) to advice all the clubs about the decision to postponed all our local competition and also to advise on the rounds of competition that we will play next year.”
Nambon said the executive will decide whether to play only one round of the competition by playing double header games or play two rounds of competition and finish before March 21 next year to allow clubs to take part in the Easter national championships in Port Moresby.
“I urge all the club executives to attend the meeting to deliberate on the issue before the start of the competition to avoid any confusion.”
