Bubu is coaching around

JUST last week, all schools throughout the country officially closed for the year.
Many students and school volunteers went home disappointed but this was not the case for Anthony Luke.
Commonly known as Bubu coach, Luke has been the forefront of St Peter Channel soccer teams in the School Soccer Port Moresby competition since 1989.
He took over the reign from what he recalled a parish priest and then a expatriate who was helping out students to take part in school soccer competition.
From Trobriand Island in Milne Bay province were soccer is part of their social life, Tony wants to see kids enjoy sports in this case – playing soccer.
“I am a happy man and have six grown up children and I have plenty of bubus (In fact, he lost count of them). Just tell the readers, I have plenty of Bubus,” he said jokingly.
During St Peter Channel graduation last week, Bubu coach was awarded the Soccer trophy for his services to sports.
School’s headmaster Mrs Torombe said “Tony has been our fine example of helping the community. He arrived first at Sir John Guise stadium getting his notebook out to check his players. He is giving back something to the school where all his six children attended during their school day”
The soft-spoken coach said he cannot go anywhere else as six of his children came out from this school and are now working. “I am doing it to say thank you to St Peter Channel for what he has done for me,”
Bubu coach arrived in Port Moresby in late 1950s as young traffic officer with Papua Airlines where he set his roots in Port Moresby. He love his soccer and have been happy member of the Methodist Overseas Mission (MOM) Soccer Club that played in Port Moresby competition in 1960.
Tony reluctantly accepted the trophy stating that he really doesn’t want to get any award but thank St Peters Channel for recognizing his effort.
He would continue to coach St Peters until his leg can’t get him any longer.
