Dame Carol’s ministry launches plan, website

WITH the achievements made so far this year, the Department of Community Development wants to enter the New Year with determination and external focus than ever before.
To drive the department forward, a corporate plan 2008-2010 was launched yesterday in Port Moresby together with the department’s website.
Four major programmes outlined in the corporate plan will remain the driving force in ensuring targets are reached. And the website will facilitate an interactive role with all stakeholders.
Secretary Joseph Klapat, in the presence of Minister Carol Kidu said the corporate plan was the translation of the integrated community development policy (ICDP).
Mr Klapat said with the endorsement of the ICDP by the Government early this year, the department had restructured itself around four major prongs of integrated community development.
They comprise community environment, community learning, community governance and community economics, while at the same time preserving and strengthening the mandated functions in gender, child protection and civil registrations.
The activities of the corporate plan will be reflected in five strategic goals:
n Being a high performing Government department;
n Effectively implement the ICDP;
n Improve child and family welfare and further human rights and the rights of persons with disabilities in PNG;
n Ensure that at least 25% of all adults and 50% of all children have their births registered; and
n Improve gender equality and leadership.
Mr Klapat also stressed on the need of monitoring and reviewing of activities both at the national and provincial levels on period basis.
The department’s website is www.dfcd.gov.pg.
The occasion was witnessed by senior staff of the department and representatives from donor agencies.
