Cr arrested for hosting feast with relief supplies

A WARD councillor has been arrested by police for allegedly using some relief supplies to host a feast in the flood-devastated Oro province.
Provincial police commander senior Insp Samuel Jamangu confirmed this report yesterday, adding the councillor for Ward Nine in the Oro Bay local level government area was apprehended on Tuesday and was currently in police custody.
He faces charges relating to breach of the Oro Disaster State of Emergency orders that were handed down by the controller Col Vagi Oala on Nov 27.
Insp Jumangu said police apprehended the councillor (named) after receiving complaints from people at two care centres, one of them the Embi care centre.
“Basically, police are going to implement all these orders,” he said, adding the councillor had breached No. 8 of the 13 orders. This was on the issue of equal distribution of relief supplies to all affected and not be taken by some people at the disadvantage of others.
Insp Jumangu is expected to go live on air on Radio Northern to raise awareness on the manner in which relief supplies are being distributed and for people to be responsible, including those in power such as councillors and leaders.
