Miss PNG Quest deferred

THE Miss PNG Quest has been deferred to next year, the organisers said yesterday.
Winston Jacob, chairman of the Red Cross Fundraising Committee, said their members were busy providing humanitarian support in the flood-hit areas of Oro and Milne Bay.
“How can you hold the quest when people are dying,” he said in response to a report in the Post-Courier that the event for this year had been cancelled due to lack of sponsorship.
He said they had sent about 200 volunteer workers to Oro.
The report also claimed that sponsors were concerned over how the funds raised were used.
Mr Jacob told The National that there was no problem with sponsorship and that the report appeared to be based on rumours.
Acting general-secretary Regina Graham denied that the funds were being misused.
Mr Jacobs also revealed that the next Miss PNG would be sent to Hawaii for the Miss Pacific Quest.
