Racist or plain jealous?

I REFER to the letter “Crack down on ‘aliens’” (Dec 11) by John E and other “alien haters”.
Yes, I agree with you that our country has too many (illegal) Asians owning stores, kai bars, shipping, engineering, mining, workshops, etc.
I live in Madang and it is fast becoming a “little Beijing”.
But I do believe that you are not seeing the holistic view of this beautiful situation.
Just reading your letter shows that you have great resentment against Asians, but what about Hispanic, Caucasians, Africans and racist and disrespectful Aussies who come to our country illegally?
And while you are in the “hate” mood, please include our very own people.
I was amazed to see Highlanders selling buai in Lorengau and repairing my car tyres.
In fact, I can tell you that we are racist (some may deny this).
I know the word “racist” is a harsh word, so let’s replace it with “jealousy” or mangal.
I believe the reason for the anti-Asian letters is simply because the writers cannot get that promotion they longed for because an Asian is in the way or because you can see the Asians living in your area have it all (cars, business, houses, women, etc).
Hence, let us blame all illegal Asians.
Back in primary school, I had a teacher who used to tell us “If at first you don’t succeed; try, try again”.
Brother John E, focus on your heart’s desire no matter what happens instead of giving up and blaming someone else, who is in our country illegally or legally.
PNG is blessed with many resources, please open your eyes and see for yourself.
More money can be made in the remote, rural areas rather than the cities and towns.
You may argue that we have educated young men and women who can do the job.
Here again, I absolutely agree with you. But where are they now?
Most of them have gone to other countries in search of a better life and only visit PNG during their holidays.
Some don’t even want to work in remote areas. When they are posted to these places, which needs development, most tend to disappear faster than the renowned illusionist David Copperfield.
I have travelled to a few countries and I must say that we are no different from our Asian neighbours.
The only difference between us and them is that they are very industrious people, artistic and creative, and more patient than some of us.
I’d say our white neighbours are very manipulative and rude when compared them to the Asians.
Please do your research in your own spare time and you will see that we, ourselves, are to blame and our greedy, narrow-minded politicians are not helping either.
Lastly, if Highlanders can move freely to the lowlands looking for a better life, then it’s inevitable that other ethnic groups are capable of doing the same.
No matter what our Government officials do or say, we cannot stop others from coming here.
The question is – are you prepared physically, financially and emotionally for the competition?

Concerned broad-minded PNGean
Madang
