PNGWIA launch deferred to next year

THE onset of Papua New Guinea Women in Agriculture (PNGWIA) organisation on the premise to promote and provide opportunities for rural employment for the women population and contribute to government policy is creating a buzz in Morobe province.
The interim executive in Lae had decided to defer the launch of the PNGWIA development foundation to next year.
This was mainly because the policy document was still being written and the network of members had not had the opportunity to comment on it as yet.
The meeting held last September resolved that for PNGWIA to be successful, it must be driven by a policy, which would give direction for implementation of the organisation’s activities and programmes and attract donor funding.
The deferral would give PNGWIA time to conduct awareness of its formation to women agriculture networks throughout the country emphasising why they should join and what benefits they should expect and know their role as members of PNGWIA.
They will also give the executive the opportunity to consult with women on what the policy should entail and have it finalised and printed before the organisation is launched.
Present for the event will be the delegation from the Australian women in agriculture headed by Cathy McGowan.
About six groups have already been identified in the province whose major economic contribution to country’s development had been through agriculture.
Amongst these six groups is a floriculture group.
The occasion would be used to encourage women to plan and prepare for next year to host the national launch of PNGWIA and make the day a memorable for all.
All women are urged to start preparing now in order to participate in next year’s event.
