Wabag GH faces closure

By PETER PIA in Wabag
VILLAGERS in Wabag have warned that they will shut down the Wabag General Hospital if its board and management are not replaced.
They have petitioned Health Minister Sasa Zibe to address their demands, and have given him seven days to act.
The landowners from seven tribes living around the hospital, namely Kaeyalu, Yakale, Aipiap, Sapipi, Karla, Lankep and Sikira are not satisfied with the way the hospital is run by the current board and administration.
Spokesman Kepa Waenge said the tribes had agreed that they would shut down the hospital if Mr Zibe failed to address their demands.
Mr Waenge said the board and management had done nothing to improve hospital facilities.
He said because of lowmorale of the staff, three doctors had left.
Board chairman Kenneth Korakali said yesterday when contacted that he was disappointed with the actions taken by the landowners.
Mr Korakali said the tribes must allow the appropriate authorities to address the problem instead of them.
He said the matter would be discussed in their board meeting scheduled for next week.
