PMVs not maintained at all

I FIND the comment made by a Waka Wayang (Dec 12) regarding a PMV union’s move to increase its fares. His reason for the increase was due to higher operation costs.
He stated in the article that 50% of operating costs went to fuel and the rest to maintenance and driver allowances. However, the majority of buses on the roads are currently belching black smoke and they don’t to have seen any maintenance at all in years!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m just as disappointed as he is with the increase in fuel costs. What I don’t agree is operators saying they have to increase fares to cater for additional costs, yet they won’t apply this extra where they say it’s needed, i.e. maintenance.
