Ethnic groups clash

Two ethnic groups clashed in Mt Hagen city yesterday resulting in two men from Enga being seriously wounded while many others were injured and properties worth thousands of kina destroyed.
The two men seriously wounded were fighting for their lives at Mt Hagen General Hospital.
Many people from the two warring groups sustained bush knives and axes wounds. A young man from Mt Hagen lost four of his fingers.
One group involved was from Enga but had moved to Mt Hagen and settled at Tee School while the other group were locals from the Moge Akelka tribe living near Holy Trinity Teachers college.
The fight started at around 7am at Hagen Tee after locals armed with bush knives attacked the Engans.
The attack followed a fight between the two groups last Monday at the Tee School instigated by some people alleged to be under the influence of alcohol.
