Somare trumpets sound government

POLITICAL stability and the Government’s commitment to sound and prudent fiscal management over the years have resulted in budget surpluses again, Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare said in his Christmas message.
Sir Michael said the windfall was used responsibly for debt repayment and one-off infrastructure investments through the supplementary budgets.
He said the Government had also ensured that the benefits of the commodity price boom was spread widely among the majority of our people in the rural areas.
“We will continue to deliver on our commitments,” he said.,
He wished the people a peaceful Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
