Alotau hospital buys its own medicine

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK
ALOTAU General Hospital (AGH) in the Milne Bay province is now using funds obtained from the outpatients’ fees to buy new medicine from private pharmacies throughout the country, AGH chief executive officer Billy Naidi said yesterday.
“We are now using the monies collected to restock our medical supplies for the festive season after we did not receive enough from our medical stores.
“Also, the Government has closed down its payments for the year,” he said.
“We are now using the funds raised from the outpatients’ fees to buy supplies from private pharmacies in Alotau and other centres.
“A couple of months ago, we had less than half of our medical supplies. But after improving our logistic records, we have at least make up that shortfall.
“Still, that was not enough. So we are now using monies that we have raised from charging outpatients,” Mr Naidi said.
